Maybelline Illegal Length Mascara Is Just About a Misdemeano

MakeupandBeautyBlog.com

SUN, 01/8/2012 BY KAREN

You know how I’m always looking for my next hit of lash crack, right? For a lash lengthening, volumizing velociraptor capable of fast-tracking me to drag queen lash nirvana? Well, when I heard tell of a new “illegal” mascara from Maybelline — that’s actually its name, Maybelline Illegal Length Fiber Extensions Mascara ($8.95) — I desperately wanted to give it a whirl.
It’s new for spring 2012 and just arrived this month in drugstores. It comes in three non-waterproof shades (Blackest Black, Very Black and Brownish Black) and two waterproof ones (Blackest Black and Very Black). All of them utilize some fancy talk Maybelline calls “fiber-extension technology” to promise longer-looking, extended lashes that aren’t supposed to flake.

Before (top) and after two coats of Illegal Length Mascara (bottom)

I’ve been wearing Blackest Black, one of the non-waterproof shades, for the past week, and I’d say I’m…partially sold. The price is right, the formula doesn’t seem to smudge or flake (YAY!), and it’s a cinch to remove, but I don’t think it does a great deal to make my lashes look longer.
I do see a little extra length there, maybe a millimeter or two, but the difference is not as dramatic as my go-to lash lengthener of the day, Urban Decay love Cannonball.
On top of its lukewarm results, I wouldn’t mind a little better hold for lash curls…
PRICE: $8.95 each

Review & Swatches: Kat von D Tattoo Chronicles – Candelabra Edition

Avatar Image

What is it?

A palette with 16 eye shadows and a mascara held in a component that resembles a book.
 They Describe it as:
Full of stories of mystery and intrigue, the Tattoo Chronicles Candelabra Edition looks like a gorgeous, velvet-covered book. Open its pages to see Kat’s own tattoo-inspired drawings and handwritten journal entries about life, love, and beauty. Turn to the last page to reveal a palette of makeup, including sixteen trendsetting eye shadows, Kat’s new Sin-Full Lash mascara, and a large mirror.

Rating:
  • Product: 4 out of 5
  • Packaging: 4 out of 5
  • Quality: 4 out of 5
  • Overall: 4 out of 5
  • Would I buy again? Yes
  • Price: $49

Where to buy:

Overall Opinion:

If you liked the previous Kat von D palette, you’ll like this one for sure too.
All the shadows are extremely pigmented and the mascara is really good too. The packaging is extremely stunning again, I love the  black velvet, though it’s hard to keep looking good is you don’t store it well. Personally I keep my Kat von D palettes both on the shelf, since they really look like books, so for me they are easy to store.
Every row has shadows that compliment each other, first to use as highlighter, second as a lid color, and to darker shades. And of course you can mix them all you want :D
Really beautiful palette with something for everyone :)

MUG Seal of Approval:

First Class,  Sunset Blvd:
Precious, Downtown:
First Class is the warm highlighter of this bunch, Sunset Blvd is warm yellow gold,  Precious is kinda shimmery nude, and downtown is the subtle crease color.
Camila, Galeano:
Black Hearts, WTF:
Camila is the only tricky color in this palette, it works on lid and as a highlighter, but doesn’t really show up in swatches.  Light pink with teeniest amount of shimmer. Galliano is slightly lilac taupe, Blackhearts is beautiful dark brownish purple with gold glitter, and WTF is bold red color.

Holy Bible, Speed Blue:
Oddfellw, Blacksmith:

Holy Bible is the second clearly highlight color, this time cold white with shimmer. Speed Blue is shimmery quite true blue. Oddfellow is beautiful matte black with blue and green glitters, and Blacksmith is black with large amount of silver glitter, similar to UD Oil Slick.
 Helsinki, Evil Monkey:

Nerd, Night of the Hunter:

Helsinki is the capital of Finland, and a warm light brown with huge amount of gold glitter. Evil Monkey is beautiful shimmery kinda nude color. Nerd is forest green with silver glitter. Night of the hunter is matte deep army green.

Lashing out with By Terry & MAC

From Adventures In Makeup Blog
October 4, 2011

So I took another shot at By Terry's 'reformulated' mascara. Somehow I ended up with purple. SMH. I promise this is my LAST purple mascara... for this season anyway.

I have to say, I like this mascara much better than the original that I tried some months back. It goes on smooth, my lashes don't get crunchy, and the purple color is much more vibrant than Armani and Chanel.

MAC's new False Lashes Extreme Black mascara also arrived at Adventures In Makeup headquarters today. It really is 'extremely' black. I like the original False Lashes Mascara, so I was curious about how different (better?) this one might be...

I have to say, I rather like it. It's very black and shiny, and makes my lashes the same. It's not as clean as the original... I did notice some light clumping. But overall, it's a good mascara.

Ofra Cosmetics South Africa: The Mascara Experiment

I have been using the Ofra mascara for a while now, and I kind of like it.  The brush is fantastic, and it separates the eye lashes without clumping.  When I leave in the morning, my eyes look amazing.

The old mascara, although it stayed on extremely well, was prone to uneven application - "clumping" and was difficult to remove at night.  I HATE waking up with raccoon eyes, especially when I have taken the trouble to clean my eye make up the night before.  At least the Ofra Mascara is removed quite easily, and does not leave raccoon eyes the next morning.
